Your Customers Stopped Googling. They Started Asking.

"Best marketing agency near me" used to be a search. Increasingly, it's a prompt — typed into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini instead of a search bar, with the AI expected to just answer directly rather than hand back ten blue links to click through.

That shift matters more than it might sound like at first, because it changes what "being found" actually means. Ranking well on Google is still worth having. But if an AI assistant answers the question and recommends a competitor before your page is ever loaded, the ranking never gets the chance to matter.

Most businesses are already invisible here, and don't know it

Recent AI-visibility research found that the large majority of businesses simply don't appear at all when asked about directly in ChatGPT — not because they were judged and passed over, but because the AI has nothing verifiable to point to. It isn't ranking you low. It's leaving you out entirely.

The AI is looking for something specific — and most sites don't have it

The businesses that do get recommended tend to share a pattern: their site states plainly, in ordinary language, what they do and who they serve, backed by structure an AI can actually parse rather than a wall of marketing copy it has to guess at. If a model can't quote something concrete and specific from your site, it has nothing to cite you for.

Trusted third-party mentions matter more than ever

AI assistants lean heavily on sources they consider credible — general knowledge sites, well-known review and discussion platforms, established publications. If a competitor is mentioned there and you aren't, that competitor is, in a real sense, pre-loaded into the AI's answer before your business is even in the running.

This isn't a reason to panic — it's a reason to check

The fix isn't a full rebuild. It's usually a handful of concrete gaps: a missing or vague meta description, thin pages with nothing specific to quote, no clear statement of what the business actually does. All fixable once you know they're there — the hard part has always been finding out.

That's exactly why we built SuiteStory's SEO & AI Visibility check: it asks Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini the same question a real customer would, tells you plainly whether you were mentioned, and hands you specific fixes to review and apply — not a generic audit, but an answer to the question that actually matters now: when someone asks instead of searches, do they hear your name?
